Message from Beth--December 19, 2017

Thank you for your membership and what's ahead in 2018

As we close 2017, I want to thank each of you for your support and membership in ACEC Ohio.  I hope you are seeing a change in the organization and participating in the many activities available to you as a member.  In looking forward to 2018, it will be a very busy year, particularly with our advocacy efforts.

The year ahead will be an important one as we go to the polls to elect a new Governor, a U.S. HustedSenator, 16 members of Congress, 99 state representatives and 17 state senators. ACEC Ohio has begun to make connections with gubernatorial candidates, hosting Mike DeWine at the transportation committee meeting in July and just last week the Board of Directors hosted Jon Husted at the board meeting.  With a PAC event scheduled for February 8, 2018, we hope to have a candidate for Governor as our guest.  (see separate article)

In the Ohio General Assembly, 2018 will be a shorter session due to the primary election in May and the general election in November.  However, the state legislature will work on a capital appropriations bill, although dollar levels are still being determined. We continue to work with Representative Bill Seitz to put the finishing touches on an indemnification bill, with hopes to have it introduced and hearings in early 2018.

ACEC Ohio is a member of the Ohio Business Transportation Coalition—a group with the goal to bring business, transportation industry and local government representatives together to work towards more transportation infrastructure funding.  The coalition plans to get more active in early 2018, educating candidates for Governor as well as legislative members.  ACEC Ohio has a transportation funding white paper and funding hand-out and recently prepared a letter to county engineers and commissioners in support of the $5 permissive license tag fee increase authorized in the transportation budget bill this past year.  Click here for: Transportation Funding Handout and Permissive Tag Fee Letter

Warmest thoughts and best wishes for a wonderful holiday and a very happy new year!
