ACEC Ohio Political Action Program Making an Impact!
Advocating on behalf of the Business of Engineering
The ACEC Ohio PAC year is at the half-way mark and we are proud to say we are at 56% of our goal for the year, thank you to members who have supported the PAC to date! The PAC is a key component of our advocacy efforts for the business of engineering. Contributions to the ACEC Ohio PAC have allowed us to give our members opportunities to meet both the Gubernatorial Candidates at committee meetings, PAC events and small, private roundtable discussions. In addition, the Council continues to build strong relationships with Ohio House and Ohio Senate Leadership and key legislative members that are supportive of our business interests. By developing these relationships ACEC Ohio has introduced legislation to invalidate broad indemnification clauses in public authority contracts (HB 554), defeat a proposal to extend the state sales tax on professional services and allowed us to continue to fight off a PVC pipe preference bill which would legislate engineering judgement.
On a National level, ACEC has developed relationships with key Congressional members through the ACEC PAC which proved very advantageous during negotiations on the Comprehensive Tax Reform bill. Without the advocacy efforts from ACEC, those engineering firms organized as “pass through” businesses would not have received a new 20% tax deduction. In addition, the bill preserved cash accounting method for engineering firms and ensured no impact on ESOPs.
We need your support to continue these relationships and make sure we continue to be included in decisions by the Ohio Legislature, Congress and even the transition team of the new administration. In the June membership survey, advocacy is one of the top benefits of membership as identified by member companies.
There are several ways you can participate in the ACEC PACs, mail in your contributions to ACEC Ohio, attend one of two remaining regional PAC events, or attend an upcoming committee meeting and bring your contribution.
ACEC Ohio still has two upcoming regional PAC events this year, NW Ohio in September and our next scheduled PAC event with the ACEC Ohio Southwest Chapter Social event at TopGolf on August 9th. >Register Now<
