ACEC Annual Convention and Legislative Summit Highlights

Attendees from ACEC Ohio enjoyed the ACEC Annual Convention and Legislative Summit last week in Washington, DC.  An action packed 3+ days of great speakers, networking, educational sessions and Congressional visits were enjoyed by the participants.

Some of the group served as “citizen lobbyists” on Capitol Hill meeting with Ohio’s Congressional members and staff to discuss three main issues impacting the business of engineering.

  • The FAA Reauthorization—more investment by increasing the AIP Funding and lifting the cap on PFC’s; regulatory reform and opportunity to embrace technology. The House plans to vote on the bill this week.
  • Water Resources Development Act (WRDA)—authorize needed Corps water resources projects in 2018; increase funding to SRF programs and reauthorize WIFIA program; oppose new materials mandates to ensure engineers can provide the right solution for the client’s system needs. Expected action in the House in May.
  • National Infrastructure Agenda—Increase investment in core federal programs and expand financing options to leverage additional state, local and private investment; fix the Highway Trust Fund; accelerate project permitting through commonsense regulatory reforms. Congressional members hope for action after the November election.

ACEC Fact Sheets on these three issues can be found here.

I encourage you attend this conference next year, mark your calendars for May 5-8, 2019 to join us in Washington, DC. If you have any questions on this information, please contact me.
