ACEC Ohio Creates Workforce Development Committee

The ACEC Ohio Board of Directors has been discussing the workforce shortage in the engineering industry. Since there is no short-term solution, the Board voted to create a committee to focus on expanding partnerships, providing guidance and facilitating action to increase the talent pipeline.

The new workforce focused committee will have the task of creating a mission and work plan.  Board member, Brendan Lieske, has volunteered to Chair the committee. Key areas discussed at the Board level included increasing student awareness of engineering as a profession through internships and relationships with teachers and school counselors. Partnering with Universities on curriculum and level of student experience our member companies find valuable. As well as looking at technical programs to assist engineers since the shortage of professional engineers is projected for decades.

If you want to get involved at the ground level of this new committee, brainstorm and impact the workforce needs of our industry, then this is the committee for you!  Feel free to contact Lexi.Francis@acecohio.org or Beth.Easterday@acecohio.org to volunteer.
