Opening Remarks

9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Session #1: Budgeting/Estimating/Target Value
The Ohio State University’s Design and Construction Facilities Design and Construction representatives Loren Brockway and Michael Horejsi will spearhead a conversation on the effective management of project development utilizing target value budgeting. The duo will delve into various aspects, emphasizing the importance of holistic consideration for all factors contributing to success throughout the project's lifecycle. The key focus lies in aligning the budget with the scope and basis of design at an early stage to prevent rework later, encouraging seamless collaboration between project managers and estimators throughout the entire process.

10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Session #2: Ohio Building Code Update
On March 1, the Ohio Building Code adopted the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) and newer American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards. This course is tailored to provide architects with a general overview of the code changes and standards that will impact architectural design and construction practices in the state. Additionally, the session will offer insights into the significance this change will have on Ohio's building industry. This session assumes participants have participated in one of the full one-hour updates sponsored by the Department of Commerce. Jay Richards will recap the changes and answer questions you may have about the code changes and how they will affect projects you are designing and building.

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Session #3: Case Study of Rhodes Tower Schedule Management
Schedule Management: This session provides a case study delivering multiple concurrent construction projects in the same space and time. The scenario involves three contractors, four contracts, and one floor complete every five weeks in an occupied building. The session will allow attendees to successfully complete multiple concurrent projects, coordinating inspections and tracking progress. Additionally, attendees will learn how a comprehensive project delivery schedule with a weekly coordination meeting and a monthly schedule update is keeping work on track at the Rhodes tower...what could go wrong?
